The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has today (Thursday 8 December) responded to the .
RIBA President,Simon Allford:
“As the country grapples with the ongoing housing crisis, we welcome the Secretary of State’s call for an independent study into the housebuilding market. It's crucial that we ensure that the market works to deliver on the needs of consumers.
Despite the measures announced, it’s still unclear as to how the Government intends to deliver on its manifesto pledge of 300,000 new homes per year by the mid 2020s.
Quantity is key, but it must not be at the expense of quality or sustainability. Of equal import to the building of successful communities is the provision of local infrastructure, including access to good public transport, education & healthcare facilities.
We look forward to meeting with Ministers and engaging Government - sharing our expertise tohelp the public and private sectorsdeliver the neighbourhoods that will serve our communities now and for generations to come.”
