Six East Midlands buildings have won RIBA East Midlands Awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects, announced at a prestigious awards ceremony held at The Roundhouse, Derby this evening (Thursday 25 May 2017), in recognition of their architectural excellence 鈥� please note embargo date and time above. The event will be hosted by BBC East Midlands Political Editor, Tony Roe.
The winning buildings are:
- Artemis Barn, Castleton by Chiles Evans + Care Architects Ltd
- Beach Hut 鈥� Sandilands, Sutton on Sea by Jonathan Hendry Architects Ltd
- George Green Library, University of Nottingham by Hopkins Architects
- Leicester Cathedral's Richard III Project 鈥榃ith Dignity and Honour鈥檅y van Heyningen and Haward Architects
- Meadow View Specialist Dementia Residential Care Centre, Darley Dale, Derbyshire by Glancy Nicholls Architects
- Number One Westhill, Leicester by Stephen George + Partners LLP
Regional Jury Chair, Robert Evans of Evans Vettori Architects, said of this year鈥檚 Award-winners:
鈥淭he jury were delighted by the exceptionally wide range of entries submitted for the 2017 RIBA East Midlands Awards. Submissions arrived from the far extremities of the region, ranging from a Peak District barn, via a beach hut, to a dementia care home. Each of the winning schemes demonstrates the great architecture that results from a partnership between a passionate client and a committed, imaginative architect. In very different ways, every scheme adds enormously to their locality, and will engage and delight for many years to come.鈥�

- Leicester Cathedral's Richard III Project 鈥榃ith Dignity and Honour鈥� - RIBA East Midlands Building of the Year Award, sponsored by Marley Eternit
RIBA East Midlands Award winners will also be considered for a highly-coveted RIBA National Award in recognition of their architectural excellence, which will be announced on Thursday 22 June. The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize for the best building of the year will be drawn from the RIBA National Award-winning buildings later in the year.
Two RIBA East Midlands Student Awards were also awarded to Ben Price, from Nottingham Trent University for 鈥業nfrastructure for Post-capitalism鈥� and to Sarah Grocock, Leicester School of Architecture, De Montfort University for 鈥楽lowness, the Kingsbridge skills exchange for the Third Age鈥�.
