RIBA President, Simon Allford
“We fully support the principle of the creation of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Indeed, we have previously stated that thecross-departmental nature of energy efficiencyhas led tocrucial policy elements beinglost; but how it functions in reality iswhatreally matters.
Millions ofenergy inefficient homesin the UK are in urgent need of retrofit. We very much hope that this new department willbring together the right people, skillsand funding to introduce aNational Retrofit Strategywith a clear timetable and targets.
The Rt Hon Lucy Frazer’smovewill usher in the sixthHousing Ministerin just oneyear. If the Government are serious about delivering the high-quality homes that peopleneed, they themselves mustprioritise stability.
TheGovernment mustnow work collaboratively with thebuilt environmentsectorto ensure these changesmake a positive difference to people’s lives. We will be engaging with the new Secretaries of State and their departments immediately.”
